MDC Alliance National Chairman’s Statement in the wake of the Supreme Court Ruling

The MDC Alliance convened its historic and successful 5th National Congress at Ascot Stadium in Gweru between the 24th -26th of May 2019. The thrust of the congress was to formulate Policies and Principles of the Party as well as election of the National Leadership of the Party. The members of the Party resoundingly voted for its Leadership led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. It is also prudent to note that the 5th National Congress also reviewed and ratified the key decisions that the Party had made through the National Council.

The Supreme Court ruling is not only baffling in its content but its timing as well when the country is battling to ensure that the Coronavirus does not devour our People. There is neither a political nor legal question on the Leadership of the MDC Alliance under President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. The party will not allow itself to be swayed from its mission of achieving democratic change and transform into a sustainable green democratic developmental state which delivers Justice, Peace, Gender Equality, Freedoms and Protecting the vulnerable, transforming the livelihoods through empowering Youths, Women and uniting Communities into an ethical God fearing state.

The MDC Alliance remains steadfast in its support of our President Adv. Nelson Chamisa. The MDC celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2019 and in its illustrious history no Leadership has ever been imposed on it especially by the courts of Zimbabwe. The Leadership’s mandate comes from the People. The leadership is the People and the People of the MDC Alliance is its Leadership.

We also take note and warn some of our Members that want to cause fissures in the Party through the Supreme Court ruling that disciplinary measures will apply without fear or favour.

In the meantime, let’s continue with our consented effort to lockout coronavirus through staying home and flattening the graph of transmissions. Together we will win and together we conquer.
