MDC ALLIANCE ASSEMBLY OF WOMEN STATEMENT ON THE SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT

The 31st of March 2020 marked yet another dark day in the history of this country.

The Supreme Court of Zimbabwe made a ruling where it sought to alter the leadership of the Party, the MDC, and we say no.

Whilst it is common cause that the MDC held its 5th National Congress in Gweru, Ascot Stadium from the 24th to the 27th of May 2019, the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe seeks to, in a bizarre judgement subvert the People’s will by imposing Thokozani Khupe and other political remnants as its leaders.

For the record, the MDC Assembly of Women unequivocally states that President Adv. Nelson Chamisa is and shall remain the legitimate Party President despite any machinations by anyone.

It must be further stated from the onset that, the MDC is a law abiding juristic citizen who respects courts but does in all intense and purposes reserve the right to disagree with them when absurd rulings are made. The leadership of political parties is never imposed by courts but chosen by the People.

Dr. Thokozani Khupe formed her own party and held her own special congress in April 2018, where she was elected its president unopposed.

Similarly, President Nelson Chamisa held his own Congress on the 24-27th May 2019 where he was elected president unopposed by the people. If anything to the contrary is a non-event.

We congratulate the Supreme Court for affording people like Sen. Morgen Komichi, Sen. Mwonzora and others the chance to show us their true colours, that they are not part of President Chamisa’s leadership.

They have always been suspects and today the Supreme Court helped them come out in the open.

We wish them, together with Dr. Khupe, the best in their new Party.

As for the record the MDC top leadership is as elected by the People at the Party’s 5th Congress and led by President Adv. Nelson Chamisa.
Members of his team include:-
2. Prof. Welshman Ncube – VP

As the MDC Assembly of Women, we hereby affirm our unwavering support to our People s President, Adv. Nelson Chamisa.

No amount of coercion shall force the MDC into useless groups of political quislings and puppets such as POLAD under the guise of lawfares.

The MDC Assembly of Women shall never sell out in search of political mussels, rewards or anything from Mr. Mnangagwa.

Adv. Nelson Chamisa is our President. No more no less. We are through with our Congress business. Anything else is not our agenda.

In conclusion, we empathise with the People of Zimbabwe reeling under misrule of Zanu PF and Mr. Mnangagwa.

We want to tell Mr. Mnangagwa that no amount of wasting time meddling in MDC affairs
shall give people mealie meal, fuel, cash and medical centres for CORONA Virus.
As for our Party President Nelson Chamisa is our President,
Not Khupe.
